‘Making friends and raising funds’ is what the Women’s Guild in Oman (WGO) is about and its Spring Fair recently at the Al Bahja Hall of the Jungle Restaurant. was superb testimony to just that! Oman Observer Wednesday 22nd, January 2014 The Women’s Guild in Oman (WGO) held its annual croquet morning recently at the British Ambassador’s residence. True to tradition, it proved to be an extremely popular morning with all the members and guests who attended. Four teams participated over the course of the game and Avis Pickering emerged as the grand prize winner. The other highlight of the morning was the ‘Best Hat Competition’, which was judged by Mohammed al Riyami. Times of Oman January 24, 2014 Croquet Morning, the Women's Guild in Oman's annual event held on the lawns of the British Ambassador's residence on Tuesday, showcased the classic UK game and some bizarre hats that reminded one of race enthusiasts at Royal Ascot. The metal hoops are in place on the green awaiting the lovely ladies to push the wooden balls through with their mallets. The sweet voices and pleasant laughter have already warmed up the lawns and the air has thickened with a competitive spirit. Times of Oman 19 December, 2013 'Maktabati', Oman's first mobile library and an initiative of Dar Al Atta'a's Let's Read Campaign, was launched here on Tuesday. The 'Maktabati' bus will travel across Oman, giving children "greater access to good books and an opportunity to develop a love of reading". Based at the Public Knowledge Library in Qurum, the bus will travel around the country every day visiting schools, parks and public places.
