The Women’s Guild in Oman celebrated its 40th anniversary at its end-of-year luncheon yesterday.

The organisation, which was founded by a group of 13 British women in 1973, has grown over the years to include 2,200 members from 92 different nationalities, and provides many opportunities for friendship and adapting to life in Oman.

“The WGO was the first place I came to when I moved to Oman,” said Judith Dodson, who became the organisation’s president in March.

The luncheon was the first of several planned celebrations for the WGO.

The annual Crystal Ball, held in December each year, will also be a time to celebrate the WGO’s “ruby anniversary,” Dodson added.

Over the years the WGO has added new events and activities, and will continue to develop in the years to come, she said.
